CC 255 - Introduction to Law

Credits: 4
This course explores the different types of law and legal authority, standards of proof, how to conduct legal research, what “IRAC” means and why you need to know it, the most important US cases and how they’ve shaped our society, and what it means to impanel and be part of a jury. Students hear from attorneys, professionals, and judges in all areas of practice and how they’ve used their legal training. Students analyze cases, statutes, and the history of the US legal system. By the end of the semester, they understand how the legal system in the US works and, if they are considering law school, an understanding of the pros and cons of earning a law degree and what to do with it.
