CD 193 - Introduction to Communication Disorders: Culturally Responsive PracticesCredits: 4 Offers an overview of a variety of communication disorders that affect children and adults. Patient advocacy, legislative initiatives, and policies to address communicative impairments of historically underrepresented groups in the US are explored. Students participate in critical examinations of speech, language, communication, and culturally responsive practices throughout the course. Guest speakers include individuals with communication disorders and professionals who work with them who share their multiple viewpoints, diverse experiences, and contributions to the field. Students will be introduced to clinical writing to describe treatment sessions during in-class guided observations.
