CD 315 - Autism

Credits: 4
Introduces students to autism spectrum disorder (ASD), exploring the behavioral profiles and diagnostic processes of individuals with this diagnosis. Students engage with the ongoing discussions related to possible causes for this complex developmental diagnosis; societal frameworks for understanding autism as disorder, difference, diversity, or neurodivergence; and discuss both historical intervention ideas and contemporary approaches to diagnosis, intervention, and support. Students use first-person narratives, videos, and research literature to explore these topics.
