Popular culture is all around us, influencing how we think, how we feel, how we vote, and how we live our lives. This course addresses critical issues and approaches to the study of recent American popular culture, including media, visual and material culture, sports, politics, and social life, from McDonald’s to Hip Hop. Students use their own expertise as consumers of popular culture as a starting point for exploring the various roles that it plays in our lives.
