IN 236 - Global Revolts and the Crisis of Neoliberalism

In the past few years, the world witnessed the emergence of global movements and revolts of unprecedented scale as a response to the deep socio-political and economic crisis. In 2011, anti-systemic movements intensified and spread to many locations around the globe. Their scale and reach is comparable to the protests of 1968 when workers, civil rights and feminist activists, as well as students, took over factories, universities and public squares to challenge the status quo. This course will explore the cultural, socio-economic, and political factors that led to the new protests and their relationship with the previous waves of mobilization and contestation.
