IN 322 - Food and Globalization

Credits: 4
Globalization is a universal topic of discussion in contemporary politico-economic issues, but it is often one of the most misunderstood terms in debate on an almost daily basis. Students question what globalization means-a more prosperous lifestyle and the spread of Western commodities, culture, and values or “cultural imperialism”-through a discussion of foods, identity, society, and migration. How does the food we eat shape our understanding of the global and the local? What is politico-economic solvency in such a globalizing world?
