JR 101 - Discovering Journalism

Credits: 4
This course considers the role of journalism as a public service in a democratic society. Students read, view, and listen to the finest and most influential stories. They chart the news in US history, from the American Revolution to today’s digital evolution. Students analyze how print, broadcast, and online news continue to emerge and examine media from other parts of the world. They also examine ethical issues confronting the contemporary journalist and develop knowledge of the First Amendment principles.
