VM 131 - Approaches in Media StudiesCredits: 4 An interdependence between media theory and practice is explored through co-enrollment in Approaches to Media Studies and Foundations Practice. Approaches to Media Studies develops students’ critical thinking and writing skills about visual and media arts. Students learn to analyze visual and media art from both formal and contextual perspectives and articulate relational connections across cultures and disciplines. Work in this course helps students identify and critique structural power imbalances, and hegemonic cultural values and media practices. Foundations Practice allows students to explore and experiment with visual and media art production techniques and technologies within a critical framework. Effective project management skills are implemented to work through stages of the creative process as students produce work using tools while considering conceptual, ethical, and aesthetic decisions.
Course Restrictions: Visual and Media Arts majors only. Liberal Arts Perspective(s): Note(s): Co-enrollment in Approaches to Media Studies and Foundations Practice is required. Foundations Requirement(s):
