HE 200 - Health, Equity, and Social ChangeCredits: 4 This course utilizes a social justice framework to explore how modern conceptions of health and illness are shaped by cultural, social, and political factors that create and perpetuate health disparities. A multidisciplinary lens is used to investigate how health is shaped by power and privilege. The course will survey theories related to behavior change, communication, and persuasion necessary for the development of culturally competent health messages and initiatives designed for diverse populations. Students develop and practice application of culturally responsive health communication skills aimed at anti-racist and health equity practice.
