This course uses a health equity lens to introduce the study and application of health communication and advocacy. Students will explore principles of health persuasion and social change to better understand how to engage in health prevention efforts aimed at reducing health disparities. An introduction to policy-making and advocacy strategies will include a critical examination of the role of media and the arts in the promotion of narratives designed to influence health change. The course will focus on health advocacy efforts rooted in anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice.
