IN 362 - Postcolonial and Indigenous EnvironmentsCredits: 4 Course draws on wide-ranging interdisciplinary material (from history, critical theory, literary fiction, memoir, documentary film, video games, and environmental justice movements) to confront, globally, the major issues at the forefront of environmentalism in postcolonial and indigenous contexts. We will examine the different ways in which histories and presents of empire, colonialism, extractive capitalism, and uneven globalization bear violent human and environmental costs. We will also explore interventions made by anti-colonial and indigenous artists, writers, and activists in re-imagining human-environment relationships and shared climate futures, while living and enduring in degraded environments.
Course Restrictions: Junior standing Liberal Arts Perspective(s): Interdisciplinary, Global Diversity and Justice
