IN 349 - New York, Capital of the Twentieth Century

Credits: 4
Focuses on a single city in a particular era by using a wide variety of interdisciplinary lenses that will allow us to critically examine key documents culled from the seemingly infinite archive dedicated to twentieth-century New York. Considering urbanism and journalism, art and photography, sociology and film, poetry and history, dance and philosophy, graffiti and architecture, politics and economics, literature and memoir, we will see how the meaning of modern life is inseparable from the meaning of urban life. The specific place that we will investigate is therefore a paradigm of something much larger than itself.
