VM 618 - Emerging Media ProductionCredits: 4 credits (Semester varies) The course explores a range of Emerging Media technologies for expanded multimedia and multidisciplinary creative practice at a foundational level. Augmented reality, XR - extended reality or mixed reality, immersive audio, projection art, interactive environments and VR are all emerging as powerful creative tools for engaging audiences and community participants. These broad ranging creative tools are explored through a series of skills building and skills sharing exercises and culminate in a final project prototyped in one of the modalities presented. The paradigm shifting affordances of emerging media and the myriad ways digital technology have altered the fabric of our mediated lives, will also be historically, theoretically and critically examined.
