CC 623 - Public DiplomacyCredits: 4 credits (Semester varies) Public diplomacy is an instrument used by states and non-state actors to understand others’ cultures, attitudes, and behavior; build and manage relationships; and influence thoughts and actions to advance their interests and values. Drawing on the experiences of diplomats-both state and public-and a growing academic literature, this seminar-style course covers how public diplomacy’s changing actors, techniques, and practice affect the issues, methods, and mediated environments of diplomacy in the 21st century. Case studies highlight the strengths and challenges of this type of soft power influence.
