JR 650 - Foundations of Journalism and Media CreationCredits: 4 Students in this course learn how to produce compelling and coherent stories across multiple platforms. The foundations covered in this course include conceptualizing story ideas, gathering, fact-checking and synthesizing information, interviewing on the fly, curating multimedia elements, creative writing, sourcing, cultural context, data analysis, photojournalism, reporting, and producing video. This course is taught in modules to experience what it means to be a journalist, alongside a series of readings, videos, podcasts, guest speakers, and discussion groups. Students will be actively doing hands-on work during each module.
