LI 620 - Ideas of Order: Or, Singing and SensibilityCredits: 4 This course explores the intersection of craft and sensibility- how what a poet thinks about the world and reality helps inevitably to shape one’s poetry. Our discussions will focus on six exemplary poets whose work entails how the art of poetry can reflect/construct a vision of reality: What are we to make of a world that escapes our complete knowledge, allures us, challenges us, at times affronts us, and calls us, in Wallace Stevens’ phrase, to regard poetry as “an unofficial view of being”?
