JR 314 - Reporting Issues of DiversityCredits: 4 Students develop the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to function and thrive as a journalist in America’s culturally diverse society. This course analyzes both historical and present-day media coverage of a wide spectrum of underrepresented groups and challenges personal and societal stereotypes, as well as personal biases that shape how diverse and marginalized communities are covered. Students learn from guest speakers, readings, and videos about the realities of lived experiences of different groups as well as the job of journalists trying to cover them.
Prerequisite(s): JR 202 , JR 216 , JR 217 , JR 219 , or JR 221 Course Restrictions: Junior standing Liberal Arts Perspective(s): US Diversity Note(s): Fulfills the Journalism Diversity requirement.
