TH 334 - Voice and Text for Actors IICredits: 4 Continuing the work from first-year Voice and Text, this course deepens student’s connection to and facility with the Linklater Voice Approach. Students are guided through the Linklater Voice Progression with greater sophistication and specificity, and a focused attention on supporting each individual’s presence, journey, and growth with the work is centered. Students are taught how to use the Linklater tools to be heard, to be understood, and to respond to the multitude of requests they may receive from different acting teachers or directors. Questions explored include: Why do I want to free my voice? How can I approach text and not lose the connection to my breath and voice, especially when I am speaking words that are not my own? In knowing myself, what tools from the warmup do I utilize? How do I use the warmups to feel more confident in general? Additional sound and movement exercises, journaling and self-scripting, and group and individual work on found text are incorporated to provide the actor with many opportunities to communicate fully and open up all the channels for listening and responding.
