LI 402 - The Poetic Sequence

Credits: 4
Studies the development of the poetic sequence. Defined as a lyric poem in sections liberated from any narrative and thematic scaffolding, the poetic sequence achieves its effects through association, juxtaposition, and tonal shifts that negotiate conflicting energies and passions. This course explores the differences between the lyric sequence and the more recent narrative sequence that redefines the genre. Students also study why the sequence as a genre has become more prevalent in the latter 20th and early 21st centuries.

Prerequisite(s): One 300 level-Literature course.
