IN 105 - Game On: The Culture, Theory and Design of Board GamesCredits: 4 Games are a large, and growing, part of the contemporary entertainment industry and almost everyone plays, or interacts with, games in some way. This course is an introduction to Game Studies, an interdisciplinary field drawing on Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Math, Media Studies, History, Art, Gender Studies, Economics and more. We focus on board games, but venture into neighboring activities such as video games, role-playing games, sports, and puzzles. We consider a range of aspects of play–creative, cultural, narrative, philosophical, structural and more- and put the understanding we gain into practice with our own game designs.
