HI 209 - Modern European and German History

Credits: 4
This course focuses on the history of modern Europe, with a particular focus on‬ Germany, from the middle of the 19th century until today. During this period, Europe‬ found and then lost its dominant role as colonizer of much of the world. During the 20th‬ century, the effects of two World Wars, the Cold War, unequal economic progress, and a‬ technological revolution shifted the socio-cultural and political structures not just of the‬ European continent but the world; one that had become more global but not equal.‬ Students will gain knowledge of how the world they live in now is affected by those‬ complex and interconnected histories and processes.‬
