IN 211 - Africana Thought and PracticeCredits: 4 credits
Although often omitted from mainstream histories, black writers, thinkers, artists, and activists in Africa and the Americas have made significant contributions toward combating racism, colonialism, and other forms of oppression. This interdisciplinary course introduces students to the intellectual, political, and cultural contributions of figures such as W.E.B. Du Bois, Angela Davis, Frantz Fanon, and Steven Biko. Through engagement of a variety of texts (including literature, memoir, and film), students explore topics such as Pan-Africanism, black feminism, anti-colonial movements, and the politics of representation.
Fulfills the Interdisciplinary Perspective and the US Diversity requirement.
