VM 214 - History of East and Southeast Asian ArtsCredits: 4 credits Introduces art and architecture of the South and Southeast Asian regions, ranging from the present-day Pakistan and India into Vietnam and Indonesia. Examines archaeology of pre-historical and proto-historical cultures and the sacred structures of several major world religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Jain, and Islam. Also considers issues of identity, empire, modernism, and post-colonial politics in art made under local rulers, during European and US colonialism, and in the present. Fulfills the Aesthetic Perspective and the Global Diversity requirement. (Semester varies)
