VM 244 - Introduction to Producing

Credits: 4
Through practical approaches, students understand the roles that producers perform in overseeing content from development through distribution, for film, TV, and digital media projects. Starting with a historical look at the origins of the producers’ role in the studio system, students track how that role has evolved as technology and distribution methods have democratized the industry. The course includes a basic introduction to story through a process of writing loglines, screenplay coverage, and the creation of lookbooks. Throughout the course, the investigation of theoretical frameworks for leadership and organization serves as a guideline for team-building.
