TH 434 - Inhabiting Bodies

Credits: 4 credits
This course is designed to address the urgent and current debates taking place in the theater over who can write, perform, direct, and produce which bodies and whose stories. Students write about themselves and write from the perspective and voice of a body they do not inhabit creating two polished monologues from two different vantage points. The reading materials and class discussions address the perspectives and points of conflict both as they are taking place in the profession and inside performing arts departments across the country. The course differentiates between what is possible in a professional setting and what is necessary in an education context. Prerequisite: PA majors and senior standing for the 400-level class. Class is cross-listed with a graduate section. (Semester varies)
