The Strategic Marketing Communication master’s program prepares students for a diverse range of careers in marketing and communications. The curriculum consists of a 5+5 model, including 5 core courses and 5 elective courses. This model allows students to customize their individual program experience by selecting elective courses to match academic or career interests, bridge knowledge gaps, or build particular skill sets. The 40-credit program allows for maximum flexibility related to time, structure, and course modality. Students can enroll full-time to complete the program within two-years or even 18-months on an accelerated path, or can choose to enroll part-time and work through the program at their own pace. In-person courses are typically offered in the evening, and some elective courses are available to take in an online asynchronous format, providing flexible options for working professionals and leaving time for students to participate in internships and networking opportunities

The other five courses are electives allowing students to explore new topics, or build particular knowledge or skill sets that align with students’ career ambitions within or beyond the marketing industry.

Elective Courses

Students may choose up to 5 electives during their course of study. It is expected that students meet with the Graduate Program Director during their first semester in the program to build out their course plan and gain insight into which elective courses might best match their career aspirations. These courses are designed to prepare students for a range of careers within and beyond the marketing industry. (Please note that course offerings or availability may change.)

Strategic Marketing Communication 4+1

The Strategic Marketing Communication 4+1 program enables students to pursue their masters degree beginning in their Senior year. The program prepares students for a diverse range of careers in marketing and communications. Students can customize their individual program experience by selecting elective courses to match academic or career interests, bridge knowledge gaps, or build particular skill sets. After graduation from their undergraduate program, students can stay enrolled full-time and finish the program in one additional year, or can be enrolled part-time for greater flexibility. In-person courses are typically offered in the evening, and some elective courses are available to take in an online asynchronous format, allowing working professionals and leaving time for students to participate in internships and networking opportunities.

Students with a minimum overall GPA of 3.3 may apply for the 4+1 program at the beginning of the first semester of their junior year. Applications will be evaluated by the MA graduate program director and faculty of the department. Students are notified of acceptance by the beginning of the second semester of their junior year. Students pursuing a 4+1 combined baccalaureate and master’s degree must earn at least a B- in each graduate-level (600-level) course in order for the credits from that course to count toward their master’s degree.
