Social Impact Design Minor

The Social Impact Design Minor provides students the opportunity to work on the critical social justice issues of our time with community partners in an academic program that integrates research and practice framed in experiential learning. This minor is an interdisciplinary collaboration that requires students to synthesize and apply different modes of inquiry, intellectual perspectives, and problem-solving techniques. Students reflect on their own intellectual assumptions and methods while learning skills that promote successful collaboration in a real-world experience in arts and communication. Together, students, faculty and community organizations explore goals as change makers to have a positive impact in our communities. The minor is open to all majors across the college. Students must have sophomore standing.

This minor consists of 16 credits commencing with a 4-credit, 200-level Co-Design Studio course as a prerequisite or corequisite to establish the same important foundational methodology for all students. Students also choose 12-credits in Social Impact Studios, 4-credit, 300-level courses organized and offered in multiple ‘Initiatives.’ The Social Impact Design minor is designed with student choices and their interests in mind so that they may bundle Social Impact Studio courses within or across Initiatives.
