CD 312 - Survey of Speech Disorders

Credits: 4
Provides students with a basic understanding of speech and swallowing disorders including articulation and phonology, motor speech, voice, fluency, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and dysphagia. Each topic examined includes discussions on symptomatology, assessment, and treatment with emphasis on sociocultural sensitivity and counseling. Integration of current evidence-based literature into class discussion and written assignments is expected. Students complete guided observations of diagnostic and therapy sessions toward completion of the 25 hours required by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. They become familiar with clinical terminology and its use in written assignments.
