SO 214 - The Culture of Money

Credits: 4
Money: what could be more familiar? But do we in the 21st-century capitalist West really understand money and how it works? In this course, students examine the anthropology of money: who has money, how to get it, and what to do with it. Focused on the nature and power of money as an entry into a consideration of economic inequality, students peel back the layers of misapprehensions surrounding human transactions to understand exchange in historical and cultural contexts.
