2+2 Program in International and Political Communication, BS

Students will spend their first two years at Franklin University and their second two years at Emerson College. Upon completion of the program, students will have earned two degrees: an associate’s degree from Franklin and a BA from Emerson.

Franklin students must begin their studies at the Boston campus. They are not eligible to do their first semester of studies at any off-campus program (e.g., DC Program, Emerson LA) or are to participate in the College’s Honors Program.

Franklin University, 60 Credits

Year One Curriculum, 30 Credits

  1. Academic Writing
  2. Liberal Arts course from areas such as Art History, History, Political Studies, Sociology, Interdisciplinary Studies, Language, Math, Science, Literature, or Writing
  3. Same as above
  4. Introductiom to Communication and Media (Global Responsibilioty)
  5. Introduction to International Relations (Academic Travel)
  6. Communication Studies and Criticism
  7. Legal Studies, or other Political Communication course
  8. Inequality and Politics, or other Political Communication course (Academic Travel or Global Responsibility)
  9. Major Elective course
  10. General Elective course

Year Two Curriculum, 30 Credits

  1. Academic Writing or other Liberal Arts requirement
  2. Liberal Arts course from areas such as Art History, History, Political Studies, Sociology, Interdisciplinary Studies, Language, Math, Science, Literature, or Writing
  3. Same as above
  4. Communication Research Methods
  5. International Environmental Politics
  6. Political Economy
  7. Strategic Communication
  8. Politics and Organized Crime or other Political Communication course (Academic Travel or Global Responsibility)

Emerson College, 68 Credits

The summer prior to arriving in Boston, CC 100 - Fundamentals of Speech Communication  (Online) is required

  2. CC 304 - Strategic Digital Communication   or CC 308 - Online Content and Strategy   
  3. CC 303 - Survey Research Methods   
  4. CC 345 - Public Affairs Matrix: Media, Politics, and Advocacy   or CC 356 - Crisis Communication    
  5. CC 361 - Public Diplomacy and Grass Roots Activism , or another CC 300-level elective

  8. Liberal Arts course, or CC 262 - Professional Communication
