The undergraduate faculty of Visual and Media Arts is committed to the following learning objectives for the BFA in Media Arts Production program.
Through their scholarly and creative work, students will:

Articulate an understanding of media history, including that of underrepresented groups.

Incorporate a knowledge of media theory, including global perspectives on media form and function, sensitive to the work of historically marginalized critics and theorists underrepresented in the canons of media criticism.

Demonstrate technical and/or storytelling proficiency in creating work for diverse audiences

Explore their creative process and aesthetic values sensitive to issues of diversity and inclusion.

Conduct meaningful research and develop proficiency in writing with suitable and effective academic vocabulary from an analytical and critical perspective.

The following degree requirements pertain to the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Sixty-four credits in Visual and Media Arts plus 4 credits in upper-level Liberal Arts are required for a major under the BFA degree. Students are encouraged to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA), which includes a yearlong, intensive capstone project in the student’s chosen medium. The BFA encourages innovative exploration of voice, form, culture, and genre.
Application
To apply to the BFA program, all students must submit portfolios, transcripts, and project proposals by the designated deadline. Students are eligible to apply in their junior year and must have a minimum of 80 credits to start the BFA program. Students applying for the BFA should have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and should maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average to continue. Participation in the BFA program can limit the number of courses students can take outside of degree requirements. Students should consult their advisor and/or the BFA program director for detailed information. Admission to the BFA program is selective and by faculty committee approval only.
Requirements
Thesis Project: Students admitted to the BFA program must complete their thesis project by the end of their last semester at the College on the Boston campus.
Courses
In addition to the requirements listed in the Bachelor of Arts Media Arts Production Track, an additional 16 credits of advanced media production courses are required for the BFA degree. Requirements include two consecutive semesters (8 credits) of VM 470 : Advanced New Media Projects, VM 490 : BFA Production Workshop, or VM 492 : Photo Practicum and two advanced electives (8 credits) chosen from advanced VMA production courses. Students may take VM 499: Internship to fulfill one of the BFA elective requirements (4 credits). Both VM 490 and VM 492 are only offered on the Boston campus.
