JR 307 - Reporting on Race and CultureCredits: 4 In this advanced reporting class, aspiring journalists will engage deeply with the lived experiences and pressing issues faced by Black, Latinx and Asian Bostonians and other individuals of color residing in Roxbury, Mattapan, and Dorchester. By delving into the dynamics of systemic racism and societal indifference, we will unpack the longstanding challenges of poverty, underemployment, inadequate housing, over-policing and surveillance within these communities. Simultaneously, we will explore the inspiring social movements striving for equity, justice, and resistance against the tide of gentrification, displacement and disinvestment. Students will be challenged to work both independently and collaboratively, crafting ethical stories that illuminate.
