VM 388 - Forms of Resistance

Credits: 4
Amid a time of environmental crises, health pandemics, war, and economic, racial and judicial inequities, how do we make media matter? This course is designed as a space for the investigation, creation, and critique of various forms of activist media art. Students will be encouraged to identify arenas of personal socially-engaged interest and to develop a primary project aimed at heightening public awareness. While a collectively-produced video assignment will comprise part of the semester’s work, this class is not medium-specific and proposals for projects in film, video, audio, new media, screen-writing, and photography are welcome.
